A day after declaring 99 candidates in its first list for Maharashtra including Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and State unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the BJP on Monday (October 20, 2024) invited developmental suggestions from various sections of society for incorporating them in the manifesto for the November 20 Assembly election.

Mumbai: On the BJP’s first list of candidates in Maharashtra are 14 candidates from Mumbai. It is being said that the party plans to contest 18 seats in Mumbai. All its existing MLAs have been given another chance.

"The RSS is conducting over 50,000 small meetings and outreach efforts through its volunteers organised into groups, or tolis," a source told The New Indian Express. The outreach programme aims to shape public opinion in favour of the BJP-led ruling alliance Mahayuti and keep the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) out of power.

She is the daughter of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan who represented the constituency when he was with the Congress before switching loyalties to the BJP earlier this year.

The BJP retains 71 MLAs and fields relatives of influential leaders in its first list of 99 candidates for the Maharashtra assembly polls. This move reflects a risk-aversion approach following poor general election results.
