Discontent was brewing within the opposition BJP in Jharkhand with several of its leaders, including an incumbent legislator and three former MLAs, switching sides ahead of the assembly polls, expressing their disappointment over the candidates' list of the party.

Among the 66 candidates announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party are former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi and former Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders Champai Soren and Sita Soren, both of whom recently switched allegiance to the BJP.

The BJP on Saturday released its first list of 66 candidates for the Jharkhand assembly elections, fielding party president Babulal Marandi from Dhanwar and former chief minister Champai Soren from Saraikella.

BJP has announced that it will contest 68 seats, while its allies AJSU will contest 10 seats, the JD(U) on 2 seats and LJP (RV) on 1 seat.

Jharkhand will head into polls in two phases on November 13 and November 20, with the results set to be declared along with that of Maharashtra on November 23.
