The empty Carrollton neighborhood by St. Louis Airport, once home to a vibrant community, awaits new economic redevelopment.

The streets sit empty, the former park overgrown, and the former Carrollton Clubhouse is now covered in graffiti and crumbling to the ground.

Officials want to take advantage of the area's proximity to the airport, highways and the Norfolk Southern rail line to draw businesses that could bring jobs to Lambert and Bridgeton.

The Airport Authority has issued a request for proposals to develop approximately 315 acres where a thriving Bridgeton community once existed.

Lambert said the Bridgeton neighborhood was torn down in the early 2000s as part of a noise-abatement program.
