The AP Top 25 college basketball poll released Monday featured Tennessee holding on to its No. 1 ranking despite a strong surge from No. 2 Auburn. The Volunteers received 41 first-place votes, while the Tigers snagged the other 21 votes for the top spot.

Auburn strengthened its case to be No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll after defeating Purdue. Cincinnati and Dayton squared off in a close battle. Tennessee, Florida and Oklahoma remained undefeated with the Sooners narrowly escaping against Michigan.

Tennessee, Auburn and Iowa State retained the first three spots in the latest Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll, released Monday. The Volunteers (11-0) grabbed 41 first-place votes and Auburn (11-1) the other 21.

Tennessee received 38 more first-place votes than Auburn in last week's Associated Press Top 25 poll. My guess is that the gap between the two programs will close some Monday when things update given what Bruce Pearl's Tigers just did to Purdue.

USC climbed to No. 4 in the AP Top 25 women's college basketball rankings after a thrilling win over UConn on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Huskies dropped to No. 7. The Trojans pulled off the 72-70 win despite turnovers being an issue and also a strong second-half comeback attempt from UConn.

Tennessee and Auburn remained Nos. 1-2 atop The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll. It’s a fitting spot for a pair of Southeastern Conference teams considering the league put 10 teams into Monday’s AP Top 25.
