The Kilauea volcano in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has erupted for the seventh time since December last year, spewing lava from the Halemaʻumaʻu pit crater. Spectacular timelapse footage from January 27 captured the lava flows spreading like a river delta on the crater floor.

One of the world’s most active volcanoes is back in action. The Kilauea volcano at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is spewing lava once again, the seventh recorded episode in recent weeks.

The world’s most active volcano is at it again after Hawaii’s Kilauea began its seventh episode of its ongoing eruption, with video showing lava shooting more than 100 feet into the air.

A volcano in Hawaii started spitting lava again Jan. 27 in its seventh eruptive episode in a little more than a month, officials said. And experts are warning visitors flocking to Kilauea, the volcano on the island of Hawaii, to watch out for Pele’s hair.

The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to the summits of two of the world’s most active volcanoes: Kilauea and Mauna Loa.

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has a YouTube live feed of the eruption taken from a safe distance that shows the full lava flow into the caldera, which at night (as it is as of the time of this article being published due to Hawaii's time difference) illuminates brilliantly.

Scientists say each episode of lava fountaining since the initial eruption began on Dec. 23, 2024, has continued between 14 hours and eight days, with eruptive episodes being separated by pauses

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported that fountains on the north side of the crater are now reaching heights of 100 to 120 feet (30 to 40 metres) and feeding multiple streams of lava. Additionally, a smaller fountain is visible on the south side, accompanied by a small emerging lava flow.
