A safety was called on QB Sam Darnold when officials missed a face mask penalty, and the Rams held on for a 30-20 win on Thursday.

NFL official Tra Blake addressed the late-game controversy that arose Thursday night from a missed face-mask penalty in the Los Angeles Rams' 30–20 win over the Minnesota Vikings at SoFi Stadium. The Rams secured the victory when linebacker Byron Young sacked Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold in the end zone for a safety with 1:42 remaining.

The Vikings had one last chance to tie things up late on “Thursday Night Football.” A safety on their final drive, though, all but sealed their 30-20 loss to the Rams. But on that play, the referees missed what appeared to be a clear-as-day penalty that would have given the Vikings major life — and yardage — with under two minutes to go.
