Snowfall totals from an overnight storm varied across the Charlotte region on Wednesday, a National Weather Service meteorologist said. Union County near Monroe saw the highest amount at 6/10ths of an inch, NWS meteorologist Rodney Hinson told The Charlotte Observer.

The Charlotte area woke up Saturday to less than a half-inch of snow and ice from the region's first winter storm in three years. Forecasters warn that black ice could be a danger on some roads and sidewalks.

At least 8 inches fell in New Orleans, where no snow had accumulated since 2009. (It broke a previous record of 2.7 inches, according to the NWS .) It was also the largest winter storm to hit Jacksonville in 35 years and the biggest for Houston since 1960.
