As Newton voters prepare to cast their ballots on Nov. 5, they are faced with choices that could reshape classrooms and dining rooms.

When Massachusetts voters head to the polls on Nov. 5, all eyes will be on a hotly contested referendum: whether to eliminate a statewide exam as a high school graduation requirement.

In its place, the ballot measure would establish a new mandate: Students would need to complete coursework certified by their districts in those subjects that meet state academic standards.

Some questions have strong support, while one is within the margin of error, and another has Massachusetts voters evenly split.

Some say the MCAS test keeps standards high. Others say it's just another standardized test. WBZ-TV's Laura Haefeli reports.
