When Massachusetts voters head to the polls on Nov. 5, all eyes will be on a hotly contested referendum: whether to eliminate a statewide exam as a high school graduation requirement.

In addition to casting ballots for the next President of the United States, millions of Massachusetts voters are being asked to decide on five ballot questions that span a wide range of issues.

In its place, the ballot measure would establish a new mandate: Students would need to complete coursework certified by their districts in those subjects that meet state academic standards.
