CHICAGO (AP) — Top Trump administration officials, including “border czar” Tom Homan and the acting deputy attorney general, visited Chicago on Sunday to witness the start of ramped-up immigration enforcement in the nation’s third-largest city.

Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez (25th) said the fear is heightened that Immigration and Customs Enforcement will target schools, hospitals, and churches.

The Trump administration launched an immigration enforcement blitz in Chicago on Sunday that includes several federal agencies that have been granted additional authorities to arrest undocumented immigrants in the US,

Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove visited Chicago on Sunday to witness the start of ramped-up immigration enforcementin the nation's third-largest city promised by the Trump administration, though few details of the operation were made public.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, appointed by President Donald Trump, will oversee the efforts of the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshall Service, and federal prosecutors.

The number of arrests was uncertain. Illinois officials, including the governor, said they had not been given advance notice.

Border Czar Tom Homan and the acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, appointed by President Trump, are in town personally overseeing the operations.
