The East Lansing Police Department says it is seeking charges in connection with the death of a 20-year-old man who was assaulted.

Caleb Shermoe, 20, was assaulted in the 300 block of East Grand River in East Lansing Saturday and later died, police said Thursday.

Michigan State’s rapid resurgence under Nightingale included winning its first Big Ten regular season and tournament titles last year, just his second on the job. This is a different team and also one looking to extend the program’s best start in 24 years while defending a championship.

According to a brief obituary, a celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 26, at Brookshire Inn and Golf Club in Williamston.
