The Biden administration will continue protecting about 2,000 grizzly bears in four Rocky Mountain states despite objections from Republican-led states, U.S. wildlife officials said Wednesday.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rejected pleas from western states to remove the bears from the Endangered Species Act list, even after they rebounded from historic lows in the Lower 48.
The Fish and Wildlife Service listed the grizzly bear population in all of the lower 48 states as threatened in 1975.
